Des Moines, August 15th, 2020 – On Thursday, August 13th Libertarian Party of Iowa (LPIA) Chair, Mike Conner Jr. and Co-Chair, Ed Wright filed the necessary paperwork with the Iowa Secretary of State to include Libertarian Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates Jo Jorgensen and Spike Cohen on the Ballot in Iowa. The Iowa Secretary of State’s office reviewed the paperwork and confirmed that it does appear to meet the basic requirements to file for candidacy.
Should the filing be approved, Iowa will join 41 other states who will have the Libertarian Party candidate on the ballot in November. Joining Iowa is another 9 states plus District of Columbia (DC) who are expected to gain ballot access in the coming days. This would mark the 2nd consecutive presidential election that the Libertarian Party nominee would appear on the ballot in all 50 states plus DC.
“I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to represent the Jorgensen campaign by filing for candidacy in Iowa,” said LPIA Chair Conner Jr. “In our rich 45 year history in Iowa, the Libertarian Party of Iowa has successfully petitioned for statewide ballot access in 9 of 11 presidential elections.
“When you consider how unfair, undemocratic, and rigged against competition ballot access laws are, the fact that Iowa has a chance to once again have a Libertarian choice on the ballot this November is quite the feat. This was in no small part to the many passionate volunteers who came together to ensure we win this battle for ballot access. I’m thrilled that Iowans may be able to vote for a candidate with unwavering principles who stands for individual liberty and freedom this fall.”
The filing can not be finalized until the deadline for written objections passes at 5:00pm on August 27th
