“Which is better – to be ruled by one tyrant three thousand miles away or by three thousand tyrants one mile away?
Defense of our liberties starts at home. As we see in the state capital of Des Moines, even the DSM city council believes they can infringe on your 2nd Amendment rights via local ordinances.
Whether eminent domain, civil asset forfeiture by police departments, zoning restrictions on private property or simple mismanagement of government funds, Libertarians can have a positive impact in every city in Iowa by defending citizen rights as a city councilperson.
Often, Libertarians look at congressional races, or state wide races to run for while our local city councils races are uncontested.
Let’s change that.
Depending on the size of your city, it may take only fifteen petition signatures to get on the ballot, small town races depend more on your reputation and activism in your community than big budgets and professional campaign teams. Medium to large cities take more leg work to run a successful campaign, but Libertarians have had multiple elected officials on the Cedar Falls city council. These races are winnable.
Are you willing to show up and run for office? Are you willing to defend liberty in your own home town?
Please let us know if you are interested in running for office: Run for Office Form
If so, check out the Secretary of State’s site for details and call your county auditor to find out ballot requirements!
Thank you,
