Stay tuned for announcements – Act now to help LPIA grow

Iowa’s legislative session has begun for 2017. What do you think of it? Share your reactions and solutions for problems facing the state at the Polk County Libertarian Party’s monthly meeting this coming Saturday, January 14, 2017, starting at 4:00 p.m. (Update: It is being rescheduled.)

Other county affiliates of the party also have regular meetings for local Libertarians to meet and talk about issues. The Linn County Libertarian Party, for instance, just had their monthly meeting on January 10th. Here is a link to the county party’s Facebook page where information for the February meeting will be posted.

Keep an eye on the Scott County Libertarian Party’s Facebook page for information on the January 31, 2017, House District 89 special election. With this election, we still need to work under the non-party political organization rules so it takes a bit longer to get candidates on the ballot. We surpassed the threshold needed in the November 2016 election for applying for political party status. However, there is paperwork involved in becoming a recognized political party in Iowa and that takes time to complete to the satisfaction of the State.

The LPIA will have a response recorded shortly to the governor’s Condition of the State speech. That response will be posted to this website. We will also be monitoring legislation and revenue/spending discussions as the legislative session proceeds.

The LPIA is working on finalizing and formalizing the structure and goals for using and retaining political party status. Your help is needed.

  • The LPIA state convention is scheduled for March 24-25, 2017, in Johnston. Details on how to register will be available shortly. You are encouraged to attend, particularly if you are interested in volunteering, running for office, or otherwise helping the LPIA retain political party status and eligibility in 2018.
  • You may re-register to vote at any time. We ask that you register as a Libertarian. This helps to promote the LPIA as a viable party.
  • Your financial support is also needed. Please donate at least $20. This represents the annual due the LPIA used to collect before we became eligible for political party status. Your donation of $50, $100, or $500 would also be appreciated. This money will help the LPIA meet the operational, outreach, and growth essential to being and remaining a political party.  Information on how to donate is available here.

Thank you. We look forward to meeting you at the state convention, at county affiliate meetings, and at events throughout the state. If you have a question or comment, you may also contact a member of our Executive Committee.
