To the Candidates, Volunteers, and Members of the Libertarian Party of Iowa.
Congratulations on finishing our first appearance at the Iowa State Fair! Over 11 days (plus the opening parade) we met thousands of fellow Iowans, spread the word of liberty, and introduced our party to people of all ages and from all corners of this great state. We also had many Iowans register as Libertarians during this week, and a lots of sign ups for volunteers to contact later.
I am proud and grateful for all the efforts of our volunteers. A rough estimate is around 450 hours were put in; including setup, parade walkers, working the booth, and then cleaning up after – we all learned new ways to remove temporary tattoos from the floor. Speaking of temporary tattoos, approximately 7,500 were applied by our team, around 5,000 LPIA can koozies were distributed, and hundreds of pamphlets and brochures.
A special thank you to Rick Stewart for being at the fair every day; meeting and greeting Iowans and getting on stage for the Des Moines Register Political Soapbox. An equally special thank you to Jeni Kadel who handled ALL of the logistics, AJ Fisher who dealt with ALL of the volunteers, and Jonas Cutler, a non-candidate volunteer who spent the most (40) hours at the booth.
This was a great experience for all who participated; it raised awareness of our party, and the issues and values we stand for in Iowa. We cannot wait to be back next year and are already planning a bigger and better booth.
It is an exciting time to be a libertarian in Iowa, our message is finding strength, and spreading with every fair, gun show, festival, parade, and town hall event we participate in.
