The Iowa Youth Straw Poll held on November 1st, with over 58,000 students and staff members in elementary grades through high school, gave 7.3% of the votes to Gary Johnson for president. In a ten-way contest, with two parties taking almost 82% of the straw vote and very limited news coverage of the candidate, that is not a negative result. In the results posted for Clarksville schools, Gary Johnson took second place with 22.5% of the vote.  This is not the first time a Libertarian candidate has placed second in a sub-section of the youth vote. Libertarians are not the third party so much as they are one of the three main parties.

In the Des Moines Register Iowa Poll released in today’s paper, Gary Johnson has 6% support of people who have voted or plan to vote. The poll also indicates that 18% of Democrats and 18% of Republicans have voted a straight party ticket this year.  The fewer people who vote straight party means the greater opportunity for down ticket Libertarian candidates to be elected on the issues and their experience.

The election is over in two days, but the future beings at the end of the election. For a better Iowa and America, we ask you to vote Libertarian.
