One Week to Election Day – Think Local

The Libertarian Party is a young political party, having been in formation for fewer than fifty years. Similarly, many of the candidates running on the party’s ticket are relatively new to the world of campaigning. They are engaging the voters and gaining experience for the future.

Meet Joshua Miller, candidate for House District 78, including Keokuk and Washington Counties. Check out the video of a forum at the Washington Public Library with Joshua and his opponent, the incumbent for the district.  Read Joshua’s Facebook page to see why his opponent praised Joshua. Here is a recent comment from Joshua in response to an item about Gov. Branstad’s belief in savings from privatization of Medicare: “Nobody’s saving a…dime, legitimate claims are being denied or only getting 40-75%, passing on costs to service providers all over Iowa.”

Jocelyn Fry

Meet Jocelyn Fry, candidate for House District 35, including the central part of Des Moines north of I-235. A mother, homemaker, and sometimes baker/barista, Jocelyn is the sole opponent running against a well-known incumbent with a strong base of support in the district. Check out her posts on Facebook and Twitter. This is what Iowa Free Press wrote for the candidate: “Jocelyn believes in school choice, vaccine choice, the 2nd amendment, and in an end to the war on drugs.”

Troy Hageman

Meet Troy Hageman, candidate for Senate District 28 in the northeast corner of the state, including Allamakee and Clayton Counties. Check out Troy’s answers to candidate questions posed by The Clayton County Register. On his Facebook page, Troy gives support to hemp as an agricultural product.

Update: In last week’s Meet the Candidates post, visitors to LPIA.org were introduced to Jeff Meyers, candidate for House District 38. Since that post, the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce held a forum, and invited only the Democrat and the Republican. Here is an article from the Des Moines Register about the exclusion of Jeff and another candidate running as an independent.
