Three Weeks to Election Day – Think Local

Iowa’s weather remains delightful and is expected to remain pleasantly fall-like for the next several days. This is a perfect time to help local Libertarian candidates knock on doors, to support them at community forums, and to meet them at neighborhood events.

Meet Seth Bartmess, candidate for House District 32, including Des Moines’ north side and the East Village. Last weekend Seth could be found talking with voters and potential constituents at a fun day held at a local park. Topics discussed included how the state could aid with flooding control/clean-up and Medicaid funding. Seth is a veteran who served in Iraq. Meet John George, candidate for Senate District 38, covering Benton, Iowa, and Poweshiek Counties. Learn about John’s positions on issues by reading a report on Our Grinnell of a recent forum with candidates and following him on Twitter. In an article in Iowa City’s Press-Citizen after gaining ballot access with over 900 signatures, John said, “I’m an average Iowan like most of the voters who are just as sick of the usurpation of our individual rights as they are.”

melchertMeet David Melchert, Jr., candidate for House District 97, including Scott County. David is a union construction worker who is active in the Libertarian Party. His campaign and idea of service to the community has garnered media attention. Check out his Facebook page for more information, including a video David made of the candidate forum hosted by KROS radio. In a candidate questionnaire answer for The North Scott Press, David said: “The government’s primary role is security, not job creation. I believe if we can loosen up the restrictions and red tape on entrepreneurs and small businesses rather than just taking money from them to give to a different business, we will foster the creativity and ingenuity that our people can accomplish.”
