Temperatures across most of Iowa dropped below freezing this week. Ground-level fog rising from rivers and fields Thursday morning was beautiful. Yes, the flowers may not bloom again until next spring, but neither will mosquitos bite for the rest of the year.
The coolness of the season will soon be here to stay, but election activity is heating up. Volunteers spent this morning canvassing in Polk County for the presidential ticket of Gary Johnson and Bill Weld. In the afternoon, yard signs will be distributed at the Scott County Libertarian Party’s Call Center (117 Highway 67 in LeClaire). Yard signs and conversation can be found at the Johnson County Libertarian Party’s monthly meeting on Sunday, October 16, 2016. Our state chair reports absentee voting has been picking up speed throughout the state.
According to information on JohnsonWeld.com, Gov. Gary Johnson is spending today riding from Taos to Santa Fe, New Mexico, a distance of over 70 miles. Johnson says, “I’d invite Hillary and Donald to join me, but it requires balance and backpedaling isn’t allowed.” Did we mention the ride was a bicycle ride?
The Gary Johnson campaign has been busy with media interviews, releasing issue videos (such as these: Where Gary Johnson and Bernie Sanders agree and Gary Johnson on Immigration), and highlighting the problems of the two-party system through social media, such as this quote from a Facebook post: “It is time to reject the notion that Donald Trump is the only option other than Hillary Clinton. We are providing a serious, experienced, trusted alternative.”
