Libertarians Grow in Iowa with County Support

Election Day is 33 days away. Our volunteers are busy informing voters about the Libertarian candidates for federal, state, and county offices. You are welcome to join us as our campaign outreach intensifies in the month ahead.

We will also be here on November 9th and in the years ahead. Campaigns receive most of the attention, but there is hard work and many volunteers involved in keeping political parties functioning between elections. As more and more Iowans register to vote as Libertarians – and the number of registered Libertarians grew by approximately 14% from August to September 2016 – the Libertarian Party of Iowa needs ever more volunteers to help run the party, coordinate activities, and assist county affiliates throughout the year.

Our focus for the next 33 days is pulling in votes for our 2016 candidates. However, unlike individuals running for office as independents and most single-candidate parties on the ballot, the LPIA is looking beyond November 8, 2016. We are looking at ways to support our candidates and office holders, ways to continue growing the party, and ways to educate the public on how Libertarians would deal with issues before the Iowa legislature and governor. The next convention of the LPIA will be held in the Des Moines metro area on March 24-25, 2017. We would like to see you there.

LPIA county affiliates could use your help now, as well as in the future. There are several affiliates already started, most with Facebook pages. These range from very active affiliates to passive affiliates, from groups that go door knocking to help candidates in their area to groups with little more than a Facebook presence to show there are Libertarians in a particular county. Regardless of the size, the county affiliates provide an opportunity for candidates and interested Iowans to meet, to share ideas, and to encourage each other. We invite you to became active in your county affiliate, or to contact us about starting a group in your county.
