8:00 pm – The vice presidential debate is about to begin. Based on early poll results, Libertarian vice presidential nominee Bill Weld will not be at Longwood University. Yet, based on the amount of media coverage Gov. Weld has received in the past couple of days, there is enough interest in his candidacy that he should be in the debate.
8:07 pm – Bill Weld is tweeting during tonight’s debate. (Note: the debate and this live blog are on October 4, but due to the time zone for the posts the date appears as October 5.)
LPIA.org comment: Bill Weld was elected twice to serve as governor of Massachusetts. He was nominated to be ambassador to Mexico, but was never confirmed as a senator held the confirmation in response to the then-president’s action on another matter. He ran for Massachusetts attorney general in 1978, receiving 22% of the vote, according to a Boston Globe article that ran online today.
8:27 pm – recent tweet from @GovBillWeld: .
@timkaine on #Democratic “investments” for jobs–five-point plan. Too smooth! (“You are hired v. you are fired.”) #VPDebate
8:46 pm – LPIA.org comment – This is a slow-moving debate. “He will do this.” “She will do this.” Not learning much about the candidates for vice president and hearing nothing new on presidential candidates. The Atlantic recently ran an article on Bill Weld.
9:05 pm – Gov. Weld spoke on CNN about Gary Johnson, including his foreign policy. The news item is available here.
9:08 pm – Here is a recent tweet from @GovBillWeld: #Pence better than #Kaine on Syria, though Gov. Johnson & I can continue to favor restraint on “regime change” military incursions by the US
9:17 pm – LPIA.org comment – As though he were in the debate, Gov. Weld will be doing several events in the days immediately ahead. Tomorrow he will be in Atlanta, Georgia, for an evening with Bill Weld. On Thursday he will be at a rally in Worcester, Massachusetts, and on Friday, at rallies in Keene and Manchester, New Hampshire. On Sunday, he will be in Bangor, Maine, for a town hall.
