On April 19, 1975, the Libertarian Party of Iowa held it’s first annual state convention where we adopted the by-laws of the Libertarian Party of Iowa.
In 1985, the Libertarian Party of Iowa dissolved and was re-established in 1987. Growth was slow up until the early 2000’s and since then we have moved from a small organization that ran a couple of candidates every election, to a party that elects libertarians to city council races, influences public debate, and in 2014 our candidates shattered most all previous records set by previous Libertarian Party of Iowa candidates.
We now have over 5,000 registered Libertarians in the state of Iowa and that number is rapidly increasing while our opponents numbers remain stagnant. We now have county groups forming across Iowa for the first time and each day Libertarians are contacting us about running in the 2015 and 2016 elections.
