Senate District 12 is open due to the resignation of State Senator Joni Ernst who will become U.S. Senator Ernst in January. This district covers the counties of Fremont, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Ringgold, and Taylor. The election is scheduled for December 30, 2014, and the deadline for submitting nominating papers is Tuesday, December 16, 2014.
House District 4 is open due to the passing of Dwayne Alons. This district covers most of Sioux County. The election is scheduled for January 6, 2015, and the deadline for submitting nominations papers is Tuesday, December 23, 2014.
