Be Part of the Future – Be a Libertarian

Libertarians gained political party status in Iowa on November 8, 2016. The status cannot be officially recognized until after votes are certified on December 5th, but the party’s leadership team already is working on the transition. There are several ways you can help grow the party and ensure Iowa will have three political parties long into the future.

1 – Attend the LPIA state convention March 24-25, 2017. The Libertarian convention is slightly different from those of the other two parties. We conduct business but we also have speakers and promotion of the party, more like the Republican’s Ronald Reagan or Democrat’s Fall Gala dinners. It is a good way to meet other Libertarians, talk with potential candidates, and help support the party. Details about the convention will be available in the coming weeks.

2 – Get involved with your county party. Ideas that become campaign slogans or proposed laws, volunteer opportunities and candidate development, as well as discussions about government all take place when local Libertarians gather.

3 – Register to vote as a Libertarian. In 2018, this will be an important action as you will need to be registered to vote in the primary election. The choice of Libertarian on the voter registration rolls also sends a message to the media, pollsters, and potential candidates that there is interest and support for the party’s message and values.

4 – Apply to serve on an open Board or Commission in Iowa, or in your county or municipality. This helps develop future party leaders while giving a Libertarian-minded representation to a board or commission.

We worked hard to gain political party status and, with your help, we intend to keep it to give Iowans minimum government for maximum freedom.
