Heather Clark is making her first run for public office with her bid to represent Iowa House District 30.

Heather was raised in Woden, Iowa and attended Woden-Crystal-Lake Titonka High School. She holds an Associate of Arts degree in Communications Media and Public Relations from Kirkwood Community College and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History-Political Science with a minor in Humanities from Waldorf College.

Heather currently works as a Web Business Analyst for Alliant Energy in Cedar Rapids. Previously she served as the Webmaster for Waldorf College in Forest City, and was an Intra/Internet Designer for Gazette Communications in Cedar Rapids.

Heather and her husband James are new residents of North Liberty. James earned his Bachelor of Arts in Computer Information Systems from Waldorf College and is a Web Developer for Kirkwood Community College. Together the two own and operate Weno Webdesign, a small web design and development company.

While living in northern Iowa, Heather was active with the Kossuth Animal Rescue. She served as their webmaster, assisted with animal placement, and spent a short time as vice president of the organization. Along with her husband, she also served on the Titonka Economic Development Committee's marketing subgroup, and was charged with maintaining the city's website. Since moving to North Liberty, Heather has become a member of the Iowa Sailing Club.

Heather has served as the webmaster for the Libertarian Party of Iowa since 2001 and was elected to serve on the executive committee in 2003.

On the Issues
The individual should be the one to make decisions regarding his own life, money, property, family or business - not the government. I want to put choice, and the responsibility that goes with it, back into the hands of Iowans. I will defend the citizen's right to engage in any activity that is peaceful, honest, and doesn't infringe on the rights of others.

The size of Iowa's government is out of control, and at the taxpayer's expense. Every area of operation should be evaluated for places where process improvement, consolidation, or other measures would result in cost savings opportunities. This includes the legislature itself! Policymakers have an obligation to ensure cost effective delivery of government services.

Iowa's economy needs immediate attention. We need to reduce tax rates to improve our business climate and better compete with surrounding states. In addition the legislature needs to make a sustainable budget a priority. While policymakers must honor funding commitments, we should avoid future expenses - especially those that are multi-year or self-renewing. In addition, public funding for private ventures should be eliminated.

The government should not be in the marriage business. If people want to get married, they can have a private ceremony (religious if they wish), at their own expense, and without government involvement. The real question isn't blessing gay marriages. It is removing the state granted benefits for marriages of any kind. Since this isn't likely to happen anytime soon, if the government wants to maintain a hands-on approach, it becomes necessary to extend marriage benefits equally to all. I would strongly oppose efforts to ban gay marriage and encourage Iowa legislators to recognize civil unions, or better yet - get out of the marriage business all together.

Education is a priority in Iowa, and children in our state deserve the best education possible. I support alternatives to our one-size-fits-all public school systems. Charter schools, private schools, and home schooling should be encouraged.

Most importantly, if elected as your representative my job would be to make sure that your state works for you, not against you. I'd do my best to return power and funding to the people.
