Biographical Information - en español

Richard Campagna Richard Campagna is a multi-disciplinary professional who has a long and distinguished record in public and community service. He is also an international businessman, a university instructor and a legal/psychological counselor. He has degrees from Brown University (B.A.), New York University (M.A.), St. John's University (J.D.), Columbia University (M.A.) and the American College of Metaphysical Theology (Ph.D.). He is also a returning scholar at the University of Chicago.

A native New Yorker, he has lived in Iowa for 13 years with his wife, Odalys (also an attorney and college instructor) and his son Robert, a senior football player at Lawrence University, majoring in American History. Campagna is fluent in six languages and is an accomplished legal, literary and medical interpreter. He brings a philosophical approach to political discourse and is a staunch defender of the right to privacy, non-interventionism, personal liberty and economic freedom.

Richard Campagna with his wife and son Campagna currently heads up a thriving consulting practice and teaches at Kirkwood Community College and St. Ambrose University-MBA Program in Health Care. He has lectured and led seminars in all 50 states and on every continent of the world. Campagna will help lead the nation and the world with a "bottom-up," practical and spiritual approach to education and life-long learning and political discourse.

His motto is: "In education, law and life, the 'existential' and 'libertarian' approaches are most consistent with the human condition. Isn't it about time we introduced these philosophies and approaches into our daily existence and our government?"

Why Running

In addition to being a staunch supporter of each and every one of the platform components of the Libertarian Party, I am deeply commited to leading our government towards significant educational reform, downsizing of government at all levels through constitutional mechanisms and a non-interventionist foreign policy.

Furthermore, as an attorney who has practiced, counseled and taught law for more than 25 years, I am also deeply committed to a revival of our common law rights, civilly and criminally, so that our citizens can be protected against illegal force, coercion and fraud. Perhaps the major component of my platform is the introduction of a mechanism for "redress of grievences" as set forth in the U.S. Constitution. Such would be utilized by the populace to eliminate unconstitutional institutions, including but in no way limited to the Federal Income Tax.

Ten Things

(I've learned so far while campaigning on the Michael Badnarik/Richard Campagna Libertarian ticket for President/Vice President of the United States

  1. I have many life long friends and supporters, scattered nationwide, who have contributed, or will contribute, $100 or more towards our campaign.
  2. I will dedicate much of my time to profitable ventures in order to expand my travel budget. Print media and talk radio have been increasingly supportive of our efforts.
  3. There are many eclectic, free-thinking business executives who love personal and professional liberty.
  4. Fewer and fewer people in the mainstream (our principal constituency) still think Libertarians are racially-ethnically insensitive individuals with a penchant for conspiracy theory. Few also think that Lyndon LaRouche was ever or is now our standard bearer. Our campaign will continue to disabuse people of such preposterous thought patterns.
  5. This is a very enjoyable process for myself and my family and supporters because we love freedom and liberty and love what we are doing.
  6. I am delighted to run on a ticket with a strict Constitutionalist such as Michael Badnarik.
  7. I am still trying to analyze the effect of Schwarzenegger's entry into politicis upon our political party. Please send me your thoughts in this regard.
  8. There is a great deal of enthusiastic support for our campaign in all regions of the country. I have been making overtures to all "so-called" ethnic minorities, including but in no way limited to: Latinos, Italian-Americans, Luso-Brazilians, African-Americans, Eastern Europeans.
  9. My personal philosophy of optimistic, spiritual existentialism and my political philosophy of "mainstream Libertarianism" do in fact go hand in hand. In fact, they mesh well with the principles and beliefs of the Judeo-Christian tradition, those of all other religions as well as with those of individuals who profess no religion whatsoever.
  10. During our national nominating convention, I happily discovered that I was deemed to be the right person for this noble task. I respect our party's process enormously in this regard. With a slightly revised fund-raising strategy in place, our Iowa Libertarian Party and the National Party and all of our state parties are stronger and more national/international in scope and appeal than ever before. I thank you all for everything you have done so far and that you will continue to do until we achieve victory- a Libertarian solution to the grave problems facing our country and the world.

Existentialism and Personal, Professional, and Political Freedom

A seminar on the above topics will be presented by Richard Campagna on Thursday, October 28 from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at New Melleray Abbey in Dubuque, Iowa. There is a small fee for the presentation and meals are not included.

To register for upcoming seminars or to correspond about existential themes, counseling, educational programs, political movements and the like or to purchase tapes or other materials, please contact Richard Campagna. Email campodal@avalon.net or telephone 319-339-0252.
